LONDON, UK - (HealthTech Wire / News) - A new report exploring the core ingredients for successful delivery of the Technology Enabled Care (TEC) agenda calls for a different type of system leadership and radical changes to the power pyramid at the top of health and care organisations.

Chapter 1 of “Where the click do you start – the 4 enablers for creating a digital NHS” was unveiled today (Tuesday 3 May) at UK e-Health Week 2017.

Authored by engagement specialists The Social Kinetic and supported by HIMSS UK, the report includes contributions from stakeholders including CCIOs, CIOs, and other senior digital players in the private and public sector including Keith McNeil NHS CCIO Health and Social Care, Steve Crabb Director, Corporate Citizenship and Consumer Vulnerability, Centrica British Gas and Phil Mottram Enterprise Director, Vodafone UK.

It identifies the roles of clarity, leadership, culture and connectivity as key to delivering TEC. These include new behaviours, developing ‘human connectivity’ a greater focus on providing proof of concept are all explored as key drivers of success, alongside the importance of creating a shared vision and purpose and understanding of the journey ahead.

The report also examines the changing dynamics behind the emerging TEC power pyramid of CEO, CIO and CCIO.

Author Claire Cater explained: “In our work with health and leaders across the country we have consistently found highly committed, talented people struggling to get things done. This was increasingly evident in the TEC space.

“We wanted to get under the skin of why this is the case, speak to some of the leaders at the front line and find out what the challenges were and what in their view need to happen to make it a success. We uncovered important insights into the dynamics that can block or hinder digital transformation by talking to the people charged with making it happen, both on the front line and at a national level.

“They had a lot to say. We are embodying the ‘hack mentality’ that we believe needs to be harnessed, so we are presenting the collective wisdom of the contributors in three separate chapters, including a workbook designed to help TEC leaders on their journey of change. We are inviting further contributions, debate and learning as we go. The plan is to keep learning, reflecting and sharing.”

TEC leaders are invited to sign up for further chapters online and to join their peers in a range of forums which will discuss the issues raised and be used to contribute to future iterations.

The report will be officially launched at 10.15am during an interactive session in Theatre 1 at the HIMSS UK e-Health Week event at London Olympia.
